How to Read Epub Files for Free?

E-books and e-zines now are not limited to pdf, jar and mobi formats. Epub formats are becoming widely used ever since the existence of android and smartphones, Kindle and iPad.

What is epub format?
From en.wikipedia.org, it is short for electronic publication; alternatively capitalized as ePub, ePUB, EPub, or epub, with "EPUB" preferred by the vendor which is a free and open e-book standard with .epub as extension. This format has flexibility of resizing fonts, bookmarking pages and selecting your own reading layout.

How to Read ePub Format?
Note: all programs/readers included in this post are freeware, meaning you will not pay any amount using them. 
Epub formats can be read using a mobile phone, a tablet like iPad and Kindle or a computer (either using the web browser or using installed programs.

Using a Mobile Phone
E-books with epub format can be read through your symbian phone using Albite reader. I prefer this reader because I usually have my phone most of the time. So, whenever I am just waiting or killing time, I will just browse my phone and start reading ebooks. Albite reader even supports s40 phones which are by far the most classic of all the smartphone platforms. This reader is very efficient since it uses very low heap memory from your phone.

If you have an Android phone, you can read epub format files using Aldiko Reader or Mantano Ebook Reader.

Using a Computer
If you prefer reading your ebooks using a laptop or computer, you can do this either using a web browser  like Firefox and Chrome (even without internet connection) or using a program like Calibre. The web browser way is lighter to download in case you have slow internet connection.

A. If you have Firefox, you can install the Epub reader add-on. Once installed, you can now read your epub files by dragging them in your Firefox browser. Start reading right away.
B. If you have Chrome, you need to install the MagicScroll Ebook Reader add-on. Once installed, you can now open epub files.
C. If you prefer to use a program, you can download Calibre here (filesize: 48MB). It can read other ebook formats such as pdf, mobi, and rtf.

Using a Tablet
This is quite expensive way of reading epub format since you need to buy ebook readers like iPad, Kindle or Nook. But if you have one, you need B and N Nook or Sony Reader.
